North Wales, Pa. − May 1, 2019 − Senator Maria Collett (D-12) has announced $616,000 in school safety and security grants awarded by Pennsylvania’s School Safety and Security Committee.

The grant recipients in the 12th Senatorial district include:

  • Bucks County Intermediate Unit #22 – $99,560
  • Hatboro-Horsham School District – $152,280
  • North Penn School District $289,488
  • Souderton Area School District – $74,975

“Our students should be focused on learning and enjoying their time in school and not on potential threats or safety issues,” said Senator Collett. “Grant programs like this help foster safer school environments by allowing our local schools to secure the latest technologies and programming.”

Act 44 of 2018 created a School Safety and Security Fund for the purposes of providing funding to school districts for school safety and security concerns and addressing community violence.  $60 million was put into the fund with $7.5 million for community anti-violence programs and the remaining $52.5 million for school safety.

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency received 638 applications for a total of $177.6 million in funding requests. After a review of each application, 234 applications totaling $40 million were approved Tuesday.
