The 2020 Senate Session has begun, and I’m looking forward to a new year of representing you in Harrisburg. As always, please don’t hesitate to reach out to my office to share your thoughts on legislation and district issues.
Fighting for Pennsylvanians’ Health Care
Alongside several of my colleagues in the Senate, I signed on to a letter urging Senator Scavello to hold a public hearing on legislation that would protect Pennsylvanians’ access to quality, affordable health care. As state legislators, we must be prepared to act in the face of instability at the federal level. As a nurse and the wife of a chronic cancer sufferer, I know firsthand that many lives hang in the balance here. It’s time to hold a hearing and a vote on these essential bills – SB 50, SB 51, SB 939, and SB 982.

The 2020 Farm Show
I had a great time exploring this year’s Pennsylvania Farm Show in Harrisburg. It’s the nation’s largest indoor agricultural event, spotlighting thousands of farmers, exhibitors, and animals from across the Commonwealth. I visited vendors from the 12th District like Hatfield Quality Meats, tried some delicious PA-made food, and participated in the Celebrity Rabbit Hopping Competition (you can watch the cuteness here!).
If you haven’t visited the Farm Show before, I would definitely encourage you to make the trip next year.
In the District
Visiting Fox SubAcute and Advocating for Ventilator Patients
I visited Fox SubAcute at Warrington to meet with Zafir Borroughs, or “Z” as he likes to be called, a ventilator patient who faces an uncertain future as assisted care facilities across PA are canceling or decreasing their services for ventilator and tracheotomy patients on Medicaid – which is most of them.
The individuals who rely on these facilities – like survivors of catastrophic accidents, and my new friend Z, who has muscular dystrophy – deserve care. I’m proud to co-sponsor Senate Bill 959 to increase Medicaid payments to providers like Fox SubAcute. Besides being the morally right thing to do, the savings of not having to relocate these patients to more costly hospital facilities makes this one a no-brainer.
North Penn High School’s Mock Presidential Nominating Convention
I was honored to speak at North Penn Senior High School’s 12th annual mock presidential nominating convention. The event encouraged students to engage in the democratic process and recognize the power they have as voters and future leaders. The students really went all out to create a thoughtful, organized, and engaging experience for their peers.
You can read more about the convention and see who the students nominated here.
Meeting with Korean-American Veterans
It was a pleasure to meet with a group of local Korean-American Vietnam War Veterans to learn more about their efforts to support veterans through community action and legislative advocacy. From raising awareness of post-war diseases to supporting affordable housing for aging veterans, their association advocates for a wide range of issues. I thanked the group for their military service and their continued contributions to veterans in our community.
Coffee with Collett
I’m excited to announce the first of several Coffee with Collett events! My first stop will be at the Broad Street Grind in Souderton Borough on January 25 from 2pm-3:30pm. Upcoming stops include Warrington and Ambler. This is a great opportunity to chat about the issues that matter to you and learn more about what I’ve been doing to represent our district in Harrisburg. Grab a cup of locally-brewed coffee (or tea!) and join me. Hope to see you there!

Veterans who do not live near Hatboro can reach out to my office or their federal representative for assistance with veteran’s benefits and claims.
