Ready to Go!
On January 1, 2019, I was honored to be sworn in as the state senator for Pennsylvania’s 12th District. Here in the district, my team and I are eager to help you with anything you might need -- from SEPTA Key Cards to property tax/rent rebate applications, just ask! In Harrisburg, I’m ready to tackle the issues that are important to the residents of Bucks and Montgomery counties.
Together, I know we can make a difference. I am eager to roll up my sleeves and get to work.
Appointment as Democratic Chair of Senate Aging and Youth Committee
I am excited and thankful for my appointment as Democratic Chair of the Senate Aging and Youth committee.
We have a lot of important issues to address this year, such as updating the Older Adult Protective Services Act and overseeing the roll out Community Health Choices across the Commonwealth. My experiences as an attorney representing neglected and abused children, a registered nurse working in pediatric home health and long term care, and a nurse educator teaching other health professionals how to administer Medicaid programs will serve me well in this position. I look forward to working with my fellow committee members to protect and serve Pennsylvania’s most vulnerable citizens.
Addressing PFAS Contamination
Water contamination from the toxic chemicals known as PFAS is one of the most pressing issues in our area. Local military bases used firefighting foams containing these chemicals for decades, contaminating our groundwater, wells and drinking water. While contaminated wells have been shut down, residents are paying an unfair premium for clean water. Meanwhile, our groundwater has not been cleaned up and residents are getting sick. We deserve the peace of mind in knowing that our water is clean and safe and our families’ health matters.
There’s been too much finger pointing and not enough action. That is why I plan to introduce two pieces of legislation that will establish stringent drinking water standards and will add PFAS to the statewide list of hazardous substances.
UPCOMING MEETING: On Tuesday, February 12, from 6:00PM-9:15PM, Governor Wolf's PFAS Action Team is hosting its next public meeting to give updates from the DEP and DOH and hear from local governments, utilities, and the public.

Around the Town
I’m enjoying getting the chance to meet so many people around the district. I’m wrapping up my tour our district’s eighteen municipalities and am about to begin touring our 8 school districts. I’ve eaten at local favorites like Lochel’s Bakery and the Franconia Heritage Restaurant, visited local businesses like PDC Machines and Weaver’s Way, and learned about the incredible work being done by local organizations like Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Bucks County, H.A.T. Packs and Willow Grove Charities. If you have a suggestion of where I should visit next, let me know!
Wine and Spirits event — I enjoyed attending the recent opening of the Fine Wine & Good Spirits in North Wales Tuesday! These stores contribute nearly $200 million a year to our state budget! They’ve also launched an initiative to help families prevent underage drinking. Check it out at www.knowwhenknowhow.com.
