Harrisburg, Pa. — Today, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives passed the Family Care Act, HB 200, in a bipartisan 107-92 vote. The legislation would establish a statewide paid family and medical leave program. Senator Maria Collett (D-12 Montgomery, Caucus Chair), prime sponsor of the Senate companion bill, SB 906, would like to share the following statement:

“Every working Pennsylvanian should have the freedom to care for themselves and their loved ones without having to sacrifice their ability to afford basic necessities. As prime sponsor of the Family Care Act since 2019, I applaud my colleagues in the House for bringing us one step closer to statewide paid leave.

For far too long, the Senate Republican majority has stalled on legislation that would provide real relief for working families, including paid leave and overdue minimum wage increases. If we want an economy that leads the nation, supports families, and helps small businesses thrive, it’s time to pass the Family Care Act. No more excuses.”

HB 200 now advances to the Senate, where it will be assigned to committee. The last time the Senate acted on the Family Care Act was June 2024, when the bill (formerly SB 580) passed 8-3 in the Senate Labor & Industry Committee.

In September 2025, Senator Collett hosted a Paid Leave Roundtable event in her district to highlight the benefits of paid family and medical leave for parents, children and aging adults. You can watch the full program here.
