Harrisburg, Pa. March 24, 2025 − To ensure Pennsylvania citizens are defended in court should the Attorney General fail or decline to act, Senator Maria Collett (D-12 Montgomery) plans to introduce legislation to establish the Office of the Solicitor General.

During the first months of the Trump Administration, Pennsylvanians have watched as unelected bureaucrats gained access to their private information and undermined congressional authority to fund essential government services in our Commonwealth. Our Attorney General has made it clear he has little interest in standing up for us when it comes to the Trump Administration’s violations.

“The people of Pennsylvania deserve competent and capable counsel representing their interests – whether threats come from state or federal actors,” Senator Collett said. “As we face ongoing attacks to our system of checks and balances, the creation of the Office of the Solicitor General will act as a necessary guardrail, ready to fight on our behalf.”

Under the supervision of the General Counsel, the Governor would have the power to authorize the Solicitor General to represent Pennsylvania in state and federal courts when the Attorney General’s Office will not take action. The Solicitor General will be a seasoned expert in appellate work, ensuring consistency and efficiency in the courts.

Joining states like Texas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, New York, Vermont, California, and others, establishing the Office of the Solicitor General will ensure that Pennsylvania and its citizens are never left unprotected.
